Project Teams

To facilitate scheduling and coordination, Mesa Ranger District organizes its volunteers into a series of teams.  When you become a volunteer, you select which team(s) you wish to work with.  Listed below are the teams and a summary of their activities:

Conservation and Community Education
Prepares and presents programs on conservation and forest resources to public audiences

Canyon or Saguaro Lake Teams
Helps maintain developed recreation sites such as Canyon and Saguaro Lakes with weed control, litter pickup,sign construction and replacement, painting, landscaping and public education

Trail Maintenance Team
Maintains and repairs trails, constructs for drainage and water control, trims brush and removes debris, repairs and replaces signs, removes litter

Wilderness Steward Team
Greets and assists hikers at trail heads, hikes trails to provide information and assistance, collects and reports information on trail conditions, shares "leave no trace principles"
Sign Construction and Repair Team
Constructs signs and repairs signs that have been damaged, and conducts an annual inventory in wilderness and dispersed sites to identify sign needs

Boy Scouts Team
Coordinates Boy Scout projects with Boy Scout Troops and Eagle Scout Candidates looking for projects

Off-Highway Vehicle Team
Serves as Hosts and Information Stewards at trail heads or on the trails for off-highway vehicles (OHVs).  Operated by Tonto Recreation Alliance (TRAL), a partnership program
