Dean Crouse Selected as 2011 Volunteer of the Year
Dean Couse, now in his third year as a volunteer at Mesa Ranger District, has been selected as the 2011 Volunteer of the year.

Joseph Gavelek of Gold Canyon was awarded the 2010 Tonto National Forest Doug Shippey Volunteer Achievement Award on October 8 at Mesa Ranger District.

Forest To Establish Doug Shippey Volunteer Award
The Doug Shippey Volunteer Achievement Award, honoring the memory of Doug Shippey, a volunteer at Mesa Ranger District for over 25 years, is being established as an annual Tonto National Forest at a ceremony on October 8, 2 P.M., at Mesa Ranger District.

MRD Announces Volunteer Open House
Mesa Ranger District will host a Volunteer Open House to kick off the 2010 Fall season on Saturday, October 16 at 10 A.M.

Lower Salt River Cleanup Set for September 25
The 31st Annual Lower Salt River Cleanup is set for National Public Lands Day, September 25 from 8 A.M. to 2 P.M. Volunteers should sign in at the Pebble Beach Recreation site on the Bush Highway going out of Mesa toward Saguaro Lake.

Association of MRD Volunteers Formed
The Association of MRD Volunteers has been formed to help recruit, coordinate, and develop volunteer programs to support the mission of Mesa Ranger District.

Rich Smith, president of Tonto Recreation Alliance (TRAL) was recently named 2009 Volunteer of the Year for Mesa Ranger District, according to Art Wirtz, District Ranger.

MRD Seeks Vounteer Team Leaders
Mesa Ranger District is seeking team leaders to coordinate team activities for the Volunteer Program. The initial teams will include Trail Maintenance, Wilderness Stewards, Canyon or Saguaro Lakes, The "Green" Team, Off-Highway Vehicles (TRAL), and Boy Scouts and Groups.
